KOPKOP College in Port Moresby was all excitement last Friday when it celebrated its annual arts exhibition.
It was themed ‘Embracing art through education’.
The event saw students from elementary to Grade 12 perform traditional and contemporary dances.
On display were crafts such as bilums and bags that the students made and  traditional dishes that they sold to raise money for the school.
Guest speaker of the event NCD education superintendent Stephen Lapan, encouraged the students to be proud of their culture, saying without it there would be no Papua New Guinea.
Lapan said he was pleased to see the school promote arts and culture and thanked the teachers and parents for making the event a success.
Present to witness the celebrations was the Skills Development Trust Fund provincial specialist for NCD education, Aure Rage.
In his closing remarks, Rage challenged the students not to forget their culture as it was their identity.
Kopkop College started in 1983 with only 20 students and today has more than 600 students. It will r see its pioneer Grade 12s graduate on Dec 2.
