PATRON of Team Simbu Dr Peter Kora donated K20,000 to kick-start the fundraising drive for for the upcoming 2012 PNG Games in Kokopo in November.
With less than two months to go, Team Simbu needs financial support from business houses in Chimbu and Port Moresby to enable the team to take part in the national grassroots games.
Dr Kora, who is the National Planning secretary, made the personal donation  to jump-start the fundraising.
The money was accepted by the team’s fundrasing committee member  Steven Kilage earlier in the week.
Kilage said Kora had taken the lead in previous fundraising activities for the provincial team and the team and its officials were grateful to his commitment and meaningful support.
The money will go to organising a major fundraising drive on Oct 19 at the Crowne Plaza in Port Moresby.
Kilage said tickets were going for K500 per head or K5,000 a table.
The Simbu-themed night will see traditional and modern performances as well as as an auction of goods and sporting memorabilia.
Those interested in buying tickets can contact the organiser on 7003 4161.
Kilage added all proceeds raised would go towards covering the accommodation and transport of the athletes.
“It will be a fun-filled night with an auction, a live band and special guest speakers and entertainment by the Watete group,” Kilage said.
Kora has also challenged the team to be the leading Highlands province at the games in November.
Both men appealed to Simbu’s in Port Moresby to support the cause by attending the fundraiser which they hoped would make around K200,000.
They also extended invitations to the four Simbu parliamentarians led by Governor Noah Kool to attend the dinner.
