THE body of Western Highlands millionaire and People’s National Congress Party president Simon Korua will be flown home to Mt Hagen for burial today.

Korua, 56, from Mul but raised in Dei, Western Highlands and  one of the richest men in Papua New Guinea, died in Cairns on July 8 after a short illness.

He  started off with trucking and ventured into trade stores, coffee, agricultural supplies, mining, property, the share market, property  and many others, with his monetary worth not known at the time of his death.

His body was flown from Cairns to Port Moresby last Thursday.

Last Saturday, a funeral service attended by hundreds of family members, friends, business and political associates, was held at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in East Boroko where Prime Minister Peter O’Neill presented an eulogy.

O’Neill said Korua’s business achievements would be a hard act to follow.

“He (Korua) is among a list of successful Papua New Guineas who have left us way too young,” O’Neill said.

“In many ways, Simon is impossible to replace

“His success was because of sheer hard work.

“He was among Papua New Guineans who were willing to contribute their time, resources and money to nation-building.”
