MINISTER for Religion, Youth and Community Development Loujaya Kouza briefed 23 ward councillors in Lae on the district’s rollout programmes.

Kouza told the councillors from the Lae Urban and Ahi local level governments that she and the Lae district administrator wanted to work with them by funding a project for their wards.

She told the six councillors from Lae Urban and 17 from Ahi LLG that they “will advise us what is the project that you need most in your wards as we will partner with our contractors on the ground”.

She said the contractors would work in the 23 wards to complete the projects in September “so we all can celebrate independence and cut ribbons in council ward areas instead of the Sir Ignatius Kilage stadium”.

She said when work on this year’s projects were completed, the rollout would continue next year and to 2016.

Kouza urged the councillors to nominate contractors who could complete work given on time.

“The contractors must do a good job as we do not want to see variations and work not completed,” she said.

“The district administrator will have the power to hire and fire. Contractors who have a bad record with past projects will not be entertained.”
