VILLAGERS in an urban village in the Ahi local level government in Lae is calling on their local MP Loujaya Kouza to fulfil her promise by sealing the access road into their village.

Wagang (Sipaia) villagers on Monday expressed their frustration on the deteriorating condition of the 2.5 km road into their village and wanted to know when their MP and district development authority would fix the road.

Spokesperson and former Ahi ward seven councillor John Galang claimed that Kouza had promised them during a visit last year to upgrade the road and set up solar street lights at the Yanga and Wagang villages but this has not happened.

“Our access road is in a deplorable condition,” Galang said.

“There are big potholes in the middle of the road.

“Our village is located in Lae city but it looks like we are living somewhere in a remote location like Menyamya.

“I appeal to the Lae MP and her district development authority to find money and fulfill their promise.

“If they do not give us a better road then they must not come and campaign here during the 2017 elections.”

Abua Zeriga another villager said the road was old and has deteriorated with no proper maintenance work carried out over the years.

She said the ward councillors, LLG president and local MP have done virtually nothing to have the road fixed.

“They (leaders) should think of their people and fix this road,” Zeriga said.

Galang said the Wagang road was an historical road because it was built by the Japanese army during the Second World War.

“We have tourists and visitors coming to Wagang to visit war relics so they must be seen to be travelling on a good road,” Galang said.
