Shadow Minister for Justice and Attorney-General Kerenga Kua has expressed sadness at the death of former Secretary for Department of Justice and Attorney-General Dr Lawrence Kalinoe.
“It is a shock for me to have learnt through the media of the passing of one of Papua New Guinea’s most-distinguished sons, Dr Lawrence Kalinoe,” he said.
“I have known Dr Kalinoe for a long time in my career as a lawyer, and later as the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice between 2012 and 2014, when the Late Dr Kalinoe served as the secretary of the department.
“Up to his replacement in about 2017, Dr Kalinoe would have served the Department of Justice as secretary for over 12 years or so.”
Kua said it could not be disputed that Kalinoe was an accomplished academic with a very intelligent mind, which gave him the strength to be a very outstanding public servant.
“He was always courteous, polite and professional in all his approaches in his work with his colleagues and all those he crossed paths with,” he said. “It was no wonder he easily became a very-distinguished and highly-respected departmental secretary.”
Chief migration officer Solomon Kantha also expressed his shock at the sudden passing of Kalinoe.
