PETROLEUM Minister Kerenga Kua has praised the landowners of Hela’s Angore area and ExxonMobil PNG for the restart of the Angore Project this month.
The project was temporarily suspended in 2020 following the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Angore pipeline project was designed to be a tie-in to the PNG LNG terminal.
Part of the original PNG project development plan, works at Angore will see the construction of a new well pad and associated facilities and pipeline connecting the Angore gas resource to the Hides gas conditioning plant.
“The Angore tie-in project will support future revenues to the State as well as royalties to local landowners once completed,” Kua said.
“The Covid-19 continues to impact local businesses and the economy, thus it is fantastic to see the Angore works progress.”
Kua thanked the people of Angore for their support of the project.
He emphasised the importance of maintaining a sustainable and lasting level of social stability within the area so the project can be developed on time and the community can benefit from it.
“ExxonMobil PNG is meeting its commitments not only to the Government but also to the people of Angore,” he said.
“As minister, I call upon all of the leaders in Angore as well as provincial and national officials and other stakeholders to work together with ExxonMobil PNG to make this a success.”
The project’s restart will see local employment and business opportunities as well as a number of community investment initiatives in the Angore area during the construction period.
