POLICE Commissioner Tom Kulunga said yesterday police brutality is a very serious issue faced by the constabulary.

“We are taking very serious measures on those few elements who are tarnishing the good image of the police force over the years in cases dealing with police brutality on citizens,” he said.

“Individuals in the police ranks are being dealt very severe forms of punishment.”

He denied that senior officers were covering up cases of police brutality.

“We are not hiding anything. Those that have been investigated and found guilty of such actions are to be punished severely,” he said. “The police force will go back to basics and officers must properly conduct themselves when on duty.”
