THE PNG Kumuls are set to play the England Knights at the end of the year in a two-game series in Papua New Guinea.
The Knights are the England A side made up of players on the fringes of England selection and are mainly players from the English Super League.
PNG Rugby Football League announced yesterday that the Knights would be on a world tour and stop over in PNG to play the Kumuls on October 27 in Lae and November 3 in Port Moresby.
The agreement for the two-game series between PNG and England was signed by the PNGRFL and the English Rugby League board and endorsed by the Rugby League International Federation.
PNGRFL chief executive officer Reatau Rau, pictured, said that it had been close to two decades since a series was played in PNG.
“I think the last time the Kumuls played such series was back in 2001 when they played the French Roosters in Goroka and Port Moresby,” Rau recalled.
“The success of the PNG Hunters last year in the Q-Cup and during the rugby league world cup last year showed that we are a destination for rugby league.
In total, the 10th ranked PNG Kumuls have four tests to play this year.
The Pacific test on June 23 against Fiji Bati, the PM’s 13 test against Australia on Oct 6 and the two-game series against the England Knights.
