Bai, Wilshire among 25 named to play Brisbane Broncos greats

RUGGED forward Arebo Taumaku has been named in the Papua New Guinea Legends side to take on the Brisbane Broncos Legends at the Oil Search National Football Stadium in Port Moresby on Saturday.
Also in the side are his former DCA teammates Dairi Kovae, who with Arnold Krewanty had stints with the Newcastle Knights in late 1980s, and Mea Morea. PNG Rugby Football League chairman Sandis Tsaka said former NRL stars Marcus Bai and John Wilshire would also suit up for the curtain-raiser to the match between the Broncos women and the PNG Orchids.
Recently retired Larsen Marabe (238) will also be playing.
Tsaka said the team, made up mostly of Port Moresby-based former Kumuls, had been training for the past three weeks under coaches Richard Wagambie (142) and Michael Marum.
“The interest and passion shown by these former Kumuls has been overwhelming,” Tsaka said.
“They were household names in their era and I invite everybody to come to the Oil Search National Football Stadium on Saturday and see these legends dust off their boots to play a star-studded Broncos legends side.
“Wagambie and legends like Krewanty, Marum (197), Mark Mom (184), Stanley Tepend (198) and others may make surprise appearances on Saturday, such is the passion shown by these former great players.”
