Kumuls need a player who can direct the team

Letters, Normal

CAN the PNGRFL selectors make sure that they include players like Keith Peters or someone of similar quality in the Kumuls team for the Four Nations tournament?
What the team needs is a real ball player who can direct the team and the game in general.
So far, there is no other player in the country who can do this for the Kumuls, not even any of the bemobile Cup players.
The recent team that took on the Australian PM’s XIII needs to be tested on basic ball handling skills.
Many of them cannot pass or catch a ball while running.
By now, the coach should not be teaching the players how to catch, pass and kick the ball.
The players only show their physical strength by making fearless hit-ups on the opponents.
What they do not realise is that this alone cannot win a match.
We need to throw the ball around, make long and short passes and catch the ball no matter how easy or difficult the situation is.
Run at gaps or weaknesses in the opponent’s defence.
Some angle runs are essential to create possibilities of making breaks.
Studying the opposition’s attack and moving up in defence is also something our boys do not seem to understand and do well.
The usual one man hit-up does not do much for the team.
We have to get rid of the head hunters or else we will end up with embarrassing scorelines during the Four Nations next month.
Lastly, Paul Aiton can play as a second rower or lock but not as a hooker.
His form has not been up to standard lately.
Get Charlie Wabo to play that position.
