KURUMUL in Jiwaka has the potential to become the leading provincial capital of the Highlands region because of its landmass.

Newman Wali from Sigri, Bung 2 ward in North Waghi, said the decision to have the headquarter at Kurumul amid controversy came with long term vision.

“From a neutral point of view, I salute our pioneer Governor William Tongamp for making a bold decision to bring the provincial headquarter to a central location comprising 700 hectares of land,” he said.

“This is history in PNG for a provincial capital to have such a huge land mass.

“Because of the advantage we have with land, it would enable a lot of developments to come into the province.

“All Jiwaka people must look in the bigger picture of how the province can be built.

“We can beat Mt. Hagen or Goroka and that potential lies at Kurumul.”

Wali said he has no political affiliations with the Governor but from observations and analysis as a youth leader, Tongamp seem to have long term visions for the province.

“He is a man of internal exposure; therefore, I urge all leaders and good citizens to think along and cooperate with Tongamp to develop our young province.”
