THE Kwikila township, established in 1964, is one of the oldest in the Rigo district but has yet to see any major developments.

Town councillor Viritoga Hereva said the town needed to have a town authority and an urban local level government of its own to develop.

He said there were three LLGs in the district and Kwikila came under the Rigo Central LLG and not much attention was being given in terms of funding and development.

Kwikila has seen a lot of potential donors and funds from all sectors but unfortunately there has been more misappropriation than developments.

“We will be having a show in June to present the town authority submission to the Minister for Provincial and Local Level Government  Leo Dion in order to solve these problems,” Hereva said.

“The main market is very small and could not cater for all the three LLGs.

“It needs a huge renovation as it is the centre market and buyers come from as far as Port Moresby to buy food crops.” Despite some negativity, the Korean Government has donated some funding towards the renovation of the police station and the hospital, now completed.

Hereva said he was happy with those developments and he wanted the Government to look into more such projects to develop the town in the Central.
