Labour Dept is non-existent in our province
The National, Tuesday September 8th, 2015
WITH the critical situation our country is facing, ordinary Papua New Guineans are sweating their guts out to cater for their needs and wants.
Right in the face of this turmoil, the Department of Labour and Industrial Relations had neglected its responsibilities in East Sepik for far too long.
There are not checks and balance done to address labour issues despite the high influx of Asians into the province.
The standard had been comprised and the employers are having the upper hand to marginalize our people.
The department’s provincial office remains idle and there seems to be no officer to answer to public queries.
The door to the office remains closed and I wonder what the officers are doing and where are they during their official hours.
There are outstanding issues yet to be dealt with, especially in relation to for workers’ compensation.
You hardly seeing any inspection carried out by the department and I wonder whether the monthly reports are submitted to headquarters.
Therefore, I would like to call on the Secretary for Labour & Industrial Relations to hold the Momase Regional Labour Office responsible for these issues
The people of East Sepik had suffered so much without the help from the department.
