THE Department of Labour and Industrial Relations has commenced legislative reforms on the review
of the Occupational Health and Safety programme.
It would progressively replace the health and safety legislation with an Occupational Health and Safety Act.
A 2011 occupational health and safety bill had been formulated with necessary amendments, with the assistance of Fiji’s ministry of labour, industrial relations and employment.
The PNG department of labour and industrial relations yesterday held a one-day tripartite and stakeholders awareness workshop in Port Moresby.
The objective of the event was to inform staff, partners and stakeholders on the formulation and progress of the draft bill.
Staff were taken through the 73-page draft.
The first amendment draft was finalised after the PNG Occupational Health and Safety team met with Taito Waqa, Fiji’s permanent secretary for labour, industrial relations and employment.
