Lack of development at border a concern: Consular

CONSULAR general Geoffrey Wiri is concerned that there are no developments along the PNG side of the border compared to massive development on the Indonesian side.
“This is an international embarrassment where on the Indonesian side there is massive infrastructure and economic development and on our side PNG villagers live in poverty and don’t get government services,” Wiri said.
“On the Indonesian side, there is a township, services like health and education, roads, electricity and a water supply while on our side there is nothing but bush and a dirt road.
“On the Indonesian side there is light from electricity and on the PNG side there is no light with people only using kerosene lamps and fire wood.
“On the PNG side, you fetch water from wells which dry up in dry season and on the Indonesian side water is fetch from water taps and tanks in wet and dry season.
The Jayapura-based Wiri said this on Saturday during a visit to Sota along the Southern PNG-Indonesian border.
