Lack of funds hits housing

National, Normal

HOUSING Minister Andrew Kumbakor says lack of funds is  preventing him from providing housing for public servants.
“We have the land, the materials we need for construction but the money is not there. My ministry needs at least K10 million yearly to implement and sustain the policy and existence of the National Housing Corporation,” Mr Kumbakor said.
Internal political party differences in the Cabinet are preventing me from implementing the national housing policy, said Mr Kumbakor.
“Party differences have a lot to play and some of my Cabinet colleagues did not want me to have the money needed to build houses.
He said the Prime Minister is sympathetic to the situation.
Mr Kumbakor said he had partly implemented the policy with the construction of 80 new homes in Gerehu, but needed more money to continue with the project.
