MADANG FC board member and president of Madang Soccer Association Siegfried Beschel confirmed that the club would not take part in the National Soccer League this season because the franchise’s main backer the Madang government had not renewed its sponsorship.
Beschel said Madang FC belonged to the Madang government and the people of the province, however the chairman for Madang FC said the provincial administrator had not communicated to the board that the Madang government would support the club for NSL season.
“The board submitted its aquittals for last year and refunded K200,000 to the provincial government after the 2018 season but we are not aware of the reasons for the lack of support,’’ Beschel said.
“We, however, respect the Madang government decision not to continue its sponsorship. We understand the difficult state of our country’s economy and that maybe, soccer is not a priority and there are more important areas the government will need funding for.
“The board thanks the Madang government for its support for Madang FC over the last four seasons,” Beschel said.
Beschel said the Madang Soccer Association had endorsed debuting franchise Tusbab Stallions FC to take part in NSL with Tusbab Secondary School being the new club’s major sponsor with more than K100,000 in sponsorship.
“We wish the club and the school all the best and I ask that all the people of Madang put their support behind the club in their first season,” Beschel said.
“The Stallions are a young development team that will mould Madang province’s future football stars.”
