Lack of unity leaves Mt Hagen stuck on toilet issue

THE approval of the Mt Hagen city authority structure by the department of personnel management now paves the way for the implementation of the city plans and vision.
Chief executive Leo Noki said staff appointment and work will start immediately with a focus to the restoration of basic services and the removal of outstanding issues.
Noki was responding to members of the public and the Mt Hagen market management who wanted to know why the city did not have public toilets.
He said Mt Hagen used to have three public toilets but they were not longer there.
Noki said he was not sure where those toilets were now and who was responsible for their removal.
If the toilets had been given away, Noki asked why, then he announced plans to build new ones.
“Mt Hagen city needs a lot done to revive and restore the city image,” he said.
“In the meantime, I need the support of the provincial administration and the Hagen urban local level government.”
He said things could have been rolled out earlier but there was a lack of cooperation from the three government agencies. “There wasn’t any cooperation between the two and me that was why we have been going through some challenges to get the authority on track,” Noki said.
“I would like to call on the provincial administration and the current council to work with my office as I’m not trying to do something on my behalf but for the good of the province.”
