Lack of venue sees Southern Club champs final deferred

TODAY’S Southern Club Championship final between Port Moresby Rugby Football League champions Brothers and Koki Eels has been deferred due to venue unavailability, says Gwaibo Mairi.
The confederation director said he was in talks with Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League (PNGRFL) chairman Sandis Tsaka to determine a suitable date and venue for the final.
Mairi said the PNGRFL-sanctioned regional championship was played at the Sir Bill Skate Oval in Kaugere.
Kerema Rugby League president Emmanuel Morehari said the tournament needed to be better organised as it was an expensive exercise for teams from outside of Port Moresby.
He said the confederation and PNGRFL were not subsidising tournament-related costs and it was unfair on teams from Popondetta, Daru, Kiunga, Kerema, Hiri-East and Hiri-West.
Meanwhile, in the preliminary finals, Brothers beat Northern Motel Bulldogs 8-4 and Moresby South Rugby League champions Eels defeated Kerema Young Tigers 8-0 to qualify for the final.
