LAE City say are keen to score goals in today’s Oceania Football Confederation Champions League must-win clash against the Solomon Islands’ Central Coast in Auckland, New Zealand (10am kick-off, PNG time).
It is the Lae Biscuit Company-sponsored side’s last chance to advance to the Oceania Football Confederation Champions League semifinals.
Head coach Bob Morris told The National yesterday that their hopes were still alive with changes made in the line-up to improve their finishing.
“We need to win this game to keep our hopes alive in the tournament, it’s now or never,” he said.
“I am confident after today’s (yesterday) training run.
“I have made slight changes.”
Jordan Tobem will replace veteran goalkeeper Ronald Warisan while Alwin Komolong will retain his spot in defence alongside Philip Steven, Thomas Yagum and Joshua Talau.
Replacing an injured Jacob Sabua, Stahl Gubag will look to help Emmanuel Simon and Felix Komolong control the midfield.
Meanwhile, Morris is counting on the inclusion of Mathew David and Bruce Tiampo to create a strong combination with Jonathan Allen in front.
“We must improve our finishing,” Morris said.
“Our strikers need composure and the determination to score goals.
“We have to take this game seriously with an attitude to own and control the game.
“My message to the team is to give everything in this game because we need to win this game and qualify for the playoff.
“We gave away the first two game by being too casual.
“Attitude and discipline cost us the game.
“I need the team to be disciplined in this game, we can’t afford any yellow or red cards. But I am confident that the players will step up in this game.”
