THE grand final of the Lae Corporate 8-ball challenge will be played on Saturday.
The Papua New Guinea Ports-sponsored pool competition is played at Aviat Social and Sporting Club in Lae.
After completing the final round two matches, the competition started off with plate elimination finals last Sunday.
Ela Pukpuks, who are leading the competition, and seven other top teams in GS Marine, Trukai Industries, Gamoga & Co Lawyers, Paradise Consumables, JBB Investments, Lae Builders & Contractors and Bank South Pacific, will battle for the cup.
The bottom teams that will play for the plate are RECA Engineering, SP Brewery, Prima Smallgoods, Mapai Transport, Able Computing, Post Courier and Telikom.
In last Sunday’s quarter final for the plate RECA Engineering and Mapai Transport qualified for the semi-final spot on merit as their opponents pulled out of the competition.  In other quarter-final matches Able Computing forfeited Post Courier for not turning up whilst Prima Smallgoods beat SP Brewery 4-0 to make into the semi-finals.
RECA Engineering will face Mapai Transport for one of the spots in the plate final and Prima Smallgoods takes on Able Computing to see who plays the winner of RECA/Mapai in the grand final.
In Monday’s first quarter finals for the cup play off competition leaders Ela Pukpuks humbled Gamoga & Co Lawyers 4-0 and GS Marine defeated Trukai 4-1.
Gamoga will play the winner of BSP/Paradise consumables to see who plays Ela Pukpuks in the semi-final.
The winner of JBB Investment and Lae Builders & Contractors played yesterday (Tuesday) will challenge Trukai for the right to play GS Marine for a spot in the grand final.
The winner of the cup grand final will walk away with the cash prize of K3,000 while the runner up will settle for K1,500.
