A ROAD accident in Lae yesterday afternoon left several people injured and an eight-year-old boy hospitalised with serious injuries.
The accident involved an 18 tonne Hino truck and a fully-loaded 25-seater (route 100) public motor vehicle bus at the Nawai Junction along Bumbu Road.
An eyewitness, Daniel Homimirley, said the bus was at Nawai and was heading to Eriku when it collided with the truck going the opposite way.
Homimirley said he believed the bus should have given way to allow the truck to go before coming on the main road.
St John Ambulance Mamose commander Chief Supt Andersons Poumb said his staff only attended to an adult male and a young boy.
“The boy suffered serious injuries to the left side of the face and his left leg from the thigh down but his condition was stable at the Angau Memorial Hospital along with the adult male,” he said.
Chief Supt Poumb said his staff only attended to the two who were trapped inside the bus.
“The drivers at this time of the rainy season must drive with care,” he said. “They must observe simple traffic rules and drive within the city limits to avoid such accidents.”
