THE annual Trans Highway T20 tournament ended successfully in the Morobe capital on Saturday, with Lae Gold winning the final against Goroka.
This year’s tournament had centres Mount Hagen, Jiwaka, Goroka and Madang taking part, with hosts Lae fielding two teams — Green and Gold.
In the third-place playoff between Madang and Lae Green, the visitors batted first and recorded 103 runs off their 20 overs.
In reply, Lae Green reached the total in 13.1 overs to secure third place.
Winning the toss, Goroka elected to bat first and managed to collect only 46 runs and were all out within 17.2 overs, thanks to Lae Gold’s solid bowling.
In reply, Lae Gold reached the target in six overs.
Lae Cricket Association president Upali Lakshman said the tournament had been running for over 20 years, with Mt Hagen, Jiwaka, Goroka and Madang competing against Lae’s best cricketers.
“The Lae teams are the strongest compared with other participating teams,” Lakshman said.
“We got a lot to do as this provinces needs a lot of help to develop their cricket skills.”
