Lae City move to top spot

REIGNING champions Lae City moved to the top of the Kumul Petroleum National Soccer League ladder with a 5-0 win over Gulf Komara in Port Moresby on Saturday.
Vitiaz United dropped from pole spot to third after their 2-2 draw with Star Mountain.
A new-look City outfit, boasting the likes of former Tusbab Stallion Stahl Gubag and the Komolong brothers, Felix and Alwin, dominated the round-11 fixture at Papua New Guinea Football Stadium.
A cross-kick from City’s Emmanuel Simon found Felix Komolong who headed in their opener five minutes in.
But Komara then tightened their defence to deny City from scoring again the first half.
A quiet second half from Komara saw their forwards Emil Rupa, Kenneth Arah and Numa Kila struggle to breach City’s defence, which was led by Alwin Komolong.
Midway through the second half, Jacob Sabua scored City’s second goal and Obert Bika added a third shortly after.
Gubag missed an opportunity to score via a free kick inside the penalty area but City substitute Joshua Oscar made it four and Emmanuel Airem added a fifth goal to seal their eighth win of the season
“It’s obviously a great result,” City head coach Bob Morris said.
“We have new faces in the team and I think they stepped up.
“Stahl and the Komolong brothers have added more depth to the team.”
Results: Sat, Aug 8 — Vitiaz United 2 Star Mountain 2, Lae City 5 Gulf Komara 0, Hekari United 2 Bougainville 0, Tusbab Stallions 2 Kutubu 2, Morobe Wawens 3 Morobe United 1.
