TEN Lae city urban ward councillors and four administration officers have travelled to Cairns to reciprocate a recent trip by the sister city’s official.

The delegation was led by the deputy mayor Philip Mevan yesterday.

They will be discussing development and social services, waste management as well as law and order issues with Cairns city authorities.

Mayor James Khay said the increase in industrial activity, population boom and social issues required the councilors to explore various ways to deal with the problems in each ward.

“Lae is a multi-cultural city and caters for people with various cultural backgrounds struggling to cope with western culture and influence,” he said.

The trip is the second since the sister city initiative was established 17 years ago.

Cairns city council representatives visited Lae last month.
