OPERATIONS by police now under way in Lae and parts of Morobe province will coincide with the normal festive season operations, Lae city metropolitan commander Chief Supt Nema Mondiai says.
Mondiai said since the city had been declared a fighting zone and a liquor ban imposed for three months as a result of the ethnic violence in Lae last month, “it remains in force and police will conduct its operations in the city”.
He said the operations would continue through the festive period.
“The operation will continue despite the withdrawal of two mobile squads in Lae,” he said.
“Lae’s own mobile squad 13 has been recalled and will beef up manpower.
The declaration of a fighting zone and the liquor ban are still in force with police patrolling public places such as bus stops and markets to ensure order.
