LAE Police Metropolitan Superintendent Anthony Wagambie Jnr had promised businesses, residents, visitors and the public that their safety in the city is guaranteed.

This follows the launching of a foot patrol between officers from the metropolitan police and city authority forces.

Wagambie Jnr said Eriku, Main Market and Top Town were known as crime hot spots and would be patrolled by the officers.

“I assure the public that they can now walk or move around and do their business activities freely when in the city,” he said.

“The foot patrol officers will be everywhere in the city making sure that the public places are safe for everyone.

“The patrol officers will perform general police duties in making sure that Lae City authority’s nine constitutions are enforced.

“There will be no drunkards in public places, no littering, no illegal business trading and other unwanted activities.”

Wagambie said the officers’ presence should reduce the alarming rate of car thefts and robberies.

He urged the public and business houses to take ownership of law and order issue by supporting police work.
