MOROBE’S Mt Golpu Lae Corporate Eight-ball Competition will head into its finals at Aviat Social and Sporting Club tonight.
Games coordinator Nicole Monmai said the top-six teams made the cut to play in the finals ahead of the grand final on Saturday.
“Top-two teams Kuima Security and Golpu One have a second chance while the teams from third to sixth will play in the qualifying finals to qualify for the semifinals and preliminary finals to secure a place in the grandfinal,” she said.
“There will be best-of-three singles frames while double frames remain one.
“In the grand final, there’ll be best-of-five singles frames while doubles will remain one.”
John Nema, of major sponsor Mt Golpu, told The National that the competition was organised in a way that all the teams participated and were appreciative of the initiative.
“I believe the competition should end on a good note and wish all the teams the best of luck,” he said.
“The teams that do not make it through to the grand final will need to improve and come stronger next year.
“Despite the Coronavirus situation, we will complete the season before the festive period.
“I thank the organisers on the arrangement and it encourages me to continue sponsoring the competition.” Club president Karo Gamoga thanked the Mt Golpu-Hengambu Landowner Association, Gamoga and Co Lawyers, Oracle Pacific PNG Ltd and South Pacific Brewery for their support.
Cueing off the night, the quarterfinals will see the third-placed team facing the sixth-placed side while fourth meet fifth with the losing teams bowing out of the competition.
