LAE metropolitan police have reported a relatively quiet Christmas weekend in the city.
Metropolitan commander Supt Nema Mondiai said yesterday with the alcohol ban still in force, there were a few breaches with police making a few alcohol-related arrests.
Mondiai said arrests were made of illegal alcohol traders, some of whom kept trading on expired licences while home brew equipment used by illegal traders were also confiscated.
He said the special police operations in the city would continue into the New Year although police were anticipating another quiet weekend.
Many people, mostly men, within the city precincts, settlements and peripheral villages were defying the alcohol ban that was imposed last month and were drinking alcohol in public places.
Police said the few incidences they had had to attend to were mostly alcohol-related.
