A FATHER of three in Lae is K25,000 richer thanks to Digicel’s “SMS Santa” promotion.
He is Robert Opo, from Jiwaka, and is the assistant manager of MayBank in Lae.
He could not believe his luck after receiving a call from Digicel two weeks ago about his win.
He recalled being at his home when his mobile phone rang.
“I was lost for words when I received the news. I couldn’t believe it when Digicel told me this good news,” he said.
“I played the game but did not expect to win so the news was a surprise.
“I kept repeating K25,000 in my head as the win was just too much for me … my brain could not register the news in that instant,” he laughed.
Opo thanked Digicel for the prize money, which he said would be a big boost for his family.
Company operations director Lorna McPherson congratulated Opo on his win.
“We are proud to, yet again, give away a great prize to another of our wonderful customers,” she said. “
The “SMS Santa” promotion was launched on Dec 6 and ended on Christmas Eve.
The promotion encouraged subscribers to search and collect Santa’s lost Christmas goodies from their mobile phone by sending the keyword “SANTA” to short code 204.
Participants were allowed to search as many times as they wished with the objective of collecting the most Christmas goodies which included Santa’s sleigh, one of Santa’s elves, his belt and many more in order to gain points.
The lucky customer who was ranked number 1 at 11.59pm on Christmas Eve won K25,000.
Runner up prizes for the promotion were K8,000 for second and K5,000 for third. Minor prizes included instant free K1 credits.
