Lae Football Association carry out initiative to promote code

THE biggest soccer association in Momase region, Lae Football Association, is taking the lead in promoting and developing the code by supporting local level governments in the district.
Under president Roy Kamen, who was re-elected, the association has adopted a new approach in supporting football communities around the Morobe capital and LLGs.Kamen with match commissioner Alex Toki assisted local competitions such as the Wawen Cup and the Ross Seymour Cup football tournaments in recent months.
The Wawen Cup is one of the biggest tournament initiated by Morobe Football Association to identify players for its representative team, the Morobe Wawens in the National Soccer League (NSL).
“If we are seriously thinking of moving football grow and popularising the code, this is one of the many ways apart from elite childhood development programmes, youth and many more,” Kamen said.
Kamen also involved referees in his association in teaching the rules of the game and training referees, players and officials from these competitions. Toki said he was proud of the referees and thanked Kamen who was a driving force in moving football forward.
“Credit must be given to where it’s due,” Toki said.
