THE late arrival of Lae Murat for the 2011 National Murat Soccer championships yesterday did not deter their eagerness and determination as they smashed Kaplaman FC in their first match 5-0 at the Kavieng Court Oval.
Looking tired after their last minute hiccup, the Mussau Morobeans easily disposed of their fellow wantoks.
The inclusion of Besta United goalkeeper Isshmael Bole boosted the team.
Bole expertly manned his goalmouth for the entire 40 minutes in their second match disallowing the tireless efforts of Eastern Mussau’s forward pack such as Levi Kay, Rex Wai and Ben Jay
The lads from Eastern Mussau were even sent looking over their head after Lae’s stopper Yapi proved a hurdle sending back a number of attempts towards his opponents half.
Lae took ball possession for most parts of the entire match under the helmship of skipper Wally Mondo creating several opportunities and even bombarding the opponent’s goal mouth.
But that was to no avail and provided the continued  combination of Lae’s Mave Joseph, Kevin Matautu, Gary Mataenges and Walter Asid to attack in mid-field.
Even the second 20 minutes was dominated by Lae’s combination of Wally Mondo and Walter Asid in the attack forcing the Eastern Mussau to defenc their goal.
Mondo’s 15th minute penalty in the second half would have sealed the match but was deflected
Another attempt two minutes before fulltime by Lae’s Mondo was unsuccessful.
The Lae and Madnag men’s teams had little time to adapt to the Kavieng conditions given they only arrived yesterday.
Tournament director, Warren Thomas applauded the commitment and arrival of the Lae and Madang teams to boost this year’s tournament.
In other men’s division games yesterday, Yamaros Two beat Madang 2-0, Kokopo upset Kaplaman 3-0 and Kokopo again nailed East Mussau 3-0.
Kokopo have now proved to be the team to beat in the men’s pool four games.
In the women’s matches, Port Moresby ran in six unanswered goals to Poliamba while Kavieng beat Emirau Two 1-0.
