SINCE 1986, the Lae Biscuit Company has gone from strength to strength developing the nation’s most popular sport – rugby league.
Currently glowing in its reputation as a committed and flamboyant sponsor of a franchise in the semi-professional Digicel Cup competition through the Snax Lae Tigers, LBC has been a consistent backer of rugby league in Morobe.
The company has now come on board to assist the second largest league association outside of Port Moresby – Lae rugby league.
Lae Biscuit Company national sales manager Larry Ori last Friday presented a cheque for K50,000 to LRL president Russ Kaupa as part of an ongoing commitment.
The funding will cover the league’s administration and operation cost for the 2012 season.
“The commitment to the Lae rugby league is an ongoing one.
“We are going from strength to strength from the local and provincial to the national level in supporting rugby league,” Ori said.
The first commitment by the biscuit maker to the code was its sponsorship of the East Taraka rugby league club into the LRL as the Lae Biscuit Spiders. They won several LRL premierships and produced players into the inter-city competition through Lae Bombers and the national Kumuls sides in the 1990s.
“Naturally Lae Biscuit as a company has its corporate responsibilities as part of the Lae community and we are honoured and delighted to give something back to say thanks,” Ori said.
