LAE Urban local level government (LULLG) administration owes Nambawan Super Ltd (NSL) over K3 million in unremitted superannuation contributions for 450 employees over the past six years.
Lae City Authority chairman and Lae lord mayor James Khay said he was disappointed by the amount K3,340,740.54 that had gone unremitted to NSL.
“This is a total denial and injustice to 450 employees’ sweat and labour to serve this third tier government organisation between 2014 and 2019,” he said.
“The non-remittance of superannuation contributions of 450 employees is day light robbery, depriving and undermining human ability in skills and knowledge contributed daily to keep the government organisation functioning.”
Khay said the problem was created by the past management.
“Lae MP and Lands and Physical Planning Minister John Rosso and I are trying our best to sort out the matter at our end.”
He said they would pay the funds in instalments as they acquired funds through their revenue collection and other activities.
Khay said that he had not been aware of the debt until the super fund sent a letter to LCA chief executive officer Neil Ellery on Aug 14.
The NSL stated: “Our reviews show that Lae Urban LLG has 450 employees with a total unremitted superannuation contributions of K3,340,740.54.”
As part of maintaining good business relationships, NSL advised Ellery to visit their Morobe office on Aug 21-23 this year.
“We cannot deny the right of the workforce that keeps this organisation alive for the betterment of citizens residing in Lae.
“It is their right and the top management have an obligation to ensure employees contributions to NSL are always remitted to ensure they benefit when they retire or leave the workforce.”
Attempts to contact NSL yesterday for comments were unsuccessful.
