Western Highlands businessman Simon Berum and his family opened their third lodge in Lae last weekend.
Berum, along with Lae City Council director for health and sanitation Jonathan Ipang, cut the ribbon to declare the 42-room facility opened.
The event was witnessed by members of the Lae business community, police, fire services, council staff, academia and family members.
Berum said he had come a long way as a businessman.
“I have named this lodge Kaiwe Lodge,” he said.
“Kaiwe in my language means something good or nice.
“We took every care and made everything good at this lodge so when you come here, you feel good about the services and facilities we offer.”
Berum said he had made a considerable investment in the property but did not disclose the cost.
The facility contains 42 rooms, 28 of which are self-contained while the rest are deluxe units.
