THE Lae Rugby League Oval will host a double-header Sunday when Digicel Cup heavyweights Hela Wigmen, Mendi Muruks, Rabaul Gurias and Tigers meet in top-four clashes.
Visiting ladder leaders Gurias are expected to face a tough Tigers outfit while the Wigmen will look to continue their winning streak when they face second-placed Muruks in round 15.
The Kroton-sponsored Wigmen will look to go up another gear as they push for the minor premiership. Their run of five straight wins will be put to test by the Roderick Puname-coached Muruks.
Wigmen coach Seth Rip said earlier this week that it was an important game for them. “It’s a challenge to compete with tough teams like Muruks, but it gives us confidence heading into finals,” he said.
The Muruks, third-placed Wigmen and Gurias have 22 points apiece, but the Agmark-sponsored Rabaul outfit have a superior points differential.
Meanwhile, Port Moresby’s double-header on Sunday will see Central Dabaris battle Goroka Lahanis and the Moni Plus-sponsored Vipers host reigning runners-up Waghi Tumbe.
The sixth-placed Dabaris, who have one point more than the Vipers, will look to win their remaining matches to seal a spot in the top-six.
