Papindo in Lae will open the third and the fourth floors of its new shop at 7th Street as it celebrates its 45th anniversary, says managing-director Marcellina Tjandra.
Papindo Trading Company has been operating in Papua New Guinea since its establishment in Feb 1974 in Lae.
Next month the company will celebrate its 45 years.
Tjandra told The National that the new four-storey shopping mall was built by the company’s own construction team and was the best building it ever built in its history in the country.
“We build a lot of our own buildings but this is the nicest one,” she said.
“We hope that people will like to come here and do their shopping.
“We will soon improve and get better and better.
“Within the next two to three months, we will open the full building with the third and fourth floor level settings having food courts, playground entertainment centre for kids and office spaces for rent.”
Tjandra said there would be a special promotion where customers who shopped at the food courts could enter the kid’s playground.
“We do not have Disneyland or amusement park or rollercoaster here,” she said.
“It’s a small-scale and affordable entertainment for our kids – something that they will look forward to when coming here with their parents for shopping.”
The shopping mall was opened on July 3, 2018 with only the first and second floor operational, catering for the supermarket and department store. Tjandra said in 2019 the company would rebuild its shops in Port Moresby, starting this month, after those at Gerehu and Boroko were burned down last year.
“We are also looking at renovation of all our shops across the country. We will continues to do promotions and bring in products from overseas which are affordable and cheap, to suit the budgets of the small people, she said.
