LAE police have lost one of their committed and dedicated investigators who passed away last weekend.

Senior Sgt Babie Omoriong was in charge of the general squad, a unit that deals with minor crimes at Lae Central police station.

Omoriong who was affectionately called Sgt Kande, died after a short illness. He was 61 years old.

Acting metropolitan commander Insp Fred Kaiwa said: “We are mourning the death of our senior sergeant. He complained about a chest pain and went to Angau Memorial Hospital over the weekend and it was not long when he passed away. He was one of those very dedicated and committed police investigators we have in the command.”

His immediate superior, Chief Sgt Tapi Wilsen, added: “He was a real workaholic. Never did he turn his clients away or make them unhappy.

“He always attended to their complaints and had a humble character. His action spoke louder than words.”

Omoriong, from Sikam village in the Konge area, Kabwum, Morobe, served a total of 41 years in the police force.

He spent 38 years with the criminal investigation division.
