Lae Red Cross branch suspended

Lae News, Normal

INTERNATIONAL humanitarian organisation, PNG Red Cross society, has suspended one of its biggest active branches – Morobe branch – in Lae since last 16 Sept.
Volunteers especially in Lae were notified through advertisement authorised by secretary general Esmie Freda Sinapa, in the print media and on local radio stations.
The paid notices says: “All Red Cross volunteers will be contacted through their contact as registered with the society on the resumption details.”
Reasons regarding the suspension were not disclosed in the notices, with the society advising that work and transactions undertaken by branch executives will not be honored by the organisation.
The suspension came as a surprise to some volunteers and partners, as the branch was an instrumental partner to the Government during the last cholera outbreak in the province.
The Morobe branch under the chairmanship of Jerry Ososo was
then operating inside
the Morobe disaster
and emergency service yard, following a
successful agreement between the two organisations.
Attempts to get in touch with the Red Cross secretary-general and the suspended branch executives in Lae were not successful.
