Lae Softball Association set for preseason matches
THE Digicel Lae Softball Association (LSA) 2021 preseason is set to lead off on Saturday with a men’s and women’s competition running over a month with the finals pencilled in for Feb 27, president Lindsay Pulu says.
The 2021 preseason will see a total of eight men’s and seven women’s teams and will include the return of the Elces club, who come back to the women’s competition; NGI club returning with men’s and women’s teams and the inclusion of new club Kikila Cats in the men’s competition.
“We welcome back the returning clubs and extend a warm welcome to KC softball club to season 2021,” he said.
Pulu said the biggest news was the renewed interest in the women’s competition where the association had struggled to get enough teams in 2020 — there were only three teams.
“This year we have a total of seven teams, that’s an increase of five teams taking their preseason team total to seven who shall battle it out for the Digicel LSA President’s Trophy.”
Pulu said the preseason competition would see the introduction of the Digicel LSA President’s Trophy for both divisions.
“These trophies are being introduced for the first time and will become an annual fixture where clubs battle it out for preseason bragging rights.
“In addition to the trophies we shall also be giving out prize monies to the winners and runners-up.”
