THE Lae softball fraternity is mourning the death of one of its administrators, the late John Ilam.

From East New Britain province, Ilam was the former vice president and a senior executive of the Manalos Softball Club in Lae.

He passed away in Port Moresby last Friday after a long illness. His body was flown to Lae yesterday before heading home to Kokopo for burial.

In respect for the former vice president’s death, weekend matches were cancelled.

New Lae Softball Association president Lindsay Pulu confirmed Ilam’s death by cancelling all the matches over the weekend at the Scout Hall Oval.

A former Mt Hagen and Port Moresby representative player, Ilam was actively in the code he loved.

His family moved to Lae where he teamed up with the Manolos Softball Club.

PNG Softball Federation president Chris Bais has expressed his sincere condolences to the late  Ilam’s family on his ultimate passing.

“From the PNGSF Level, we will miss his services as an administrator of the Lae Softball Association, and our sincere condolences to the family in their time of sorrow,” Bais said.
