Lae Tennis club heads into doubles semis

DIVISION winners Huon Gold and Prima Smallgoods will battle for spots in Sunday’s grand final when they face Bismark Maritime and Trukai Industries respectively in the Lae Tennis Club’s doubles competition semifinals on Saturday.
Chemcare Group will battle Lae Biscuit Company for the other spot in the Division A grand final while RD Tuna Canners will meet Warrior Tanks for the other place in the Division B decider.
The teams that competed on Monday and Tuesday nights over 10 rounds of the regular season are Huon Gold, Chemcare Group, Lae Biscuit Company, Bismark Maritime, Boroko Motors (Division A), RD Tuna Canners, Prima Smallgoods, Trukai Industries, Warrior Tanks and Purple Signature (B).
“We were supposed to start the competition early in the year but we moved it to June because of the Coronavirus restrictions,” Lae Tennis Club president Glenn Cabasug told The National.
“Thanks to PNG Tennis Association for meeting all the requirements and obtaining approval for its programmes from the National Control Centre.
“Our club is affiliated with the association which is happy with what we’ve been doing here.
“We’re very happy to run the competition and junior coaching.”
He said the Lae Golf Club was helping promote the sport by freeing up its tennis courts for the competition.
