BINTANGOR Goroka Lahanis preparations to to defend the Digicel Cup they won last year has been boosted with a K10,000 donation.
The funds came from Chuave Chimbu based EMR Mori Resources.
Principal of the company Wera Mori quietly slipped into Bintangor Lahanis franchise owner Simon Sia’s office and dropped a cheque for K10,000.
Mori said EMR had been a supporter of the Lahanis for several years.
He said it was always difficult in the beginning to get the team prepared to go into the cup race, therefore EMR having realised this was giving their support at an early stage.
Mori said because his company was located in the eastern side of Chimbu and did most of its transactions and as well as businesses in Goroka it made good sense to support the Lahanis.
“We are starting off with K10,000 for this season and if the situation permits we might be able to give more support later in the year,” Mori told Sia.
He said it would be lovely to make Lahanis become another Queensland Maroons defending the title back to back for several years – the Lahanis have won two consecutive titles (2010 and 2011).
He said this could not be possible without strong corporate support.
Lahanis owner Sia described EMR’s unselfish support as the first company or individual to come to the Lahanis.
“You are the first one to contribute towards Lahanis this year and on behalf of the Lahanis management, supporters and players I thank you for the support,” Sia said.
He said they would put the money into good use and do their best to retain the Digicel Cup they won by defeating Agmark Gurias in Port Moresby last year.
Apart from the Lahanis EMR also supported Simbu Warriors last year.
Mori said EMR had spent over K120,000 supporting both franchises with the majority for the Warriors.
