THE Pacific Games Council (PGC) is satisfied with the progress made by PNG 2015 interim games organising committee (IGOC) with regard to the 2015 Pacific Games in Port Moresby.
Council president Vidyha Lakhan, who was recently in PNG to formalise the authority to oversee the preparation of the 2015 Games, said he was satisfied with the progress and commended the PNG Government for its firm commitment and ongoing support to hosting the Games.
Lakhan said it was 11 months since the successful bid and he was happy with the outcome of the meeting, in particular, the progress made by the venues, Infrastructure and equipment committee (VIEC) and the IGOC.
As anticipated the legislation will take some time, however, he confirmed that “the provisions of the Pacific Games Charter and Host Contract endorsed the establishment of the Games Authority, VIEC and IGOC”.
He said during the meeting that his main objective was to encourage the PNG Pacific Games Association and the PNG Government to respect the provisions of the PGC Charter and Host Contract.
