Lako hammer Raiders in Southern Nines tourney

Sports

Sportz Events Southern Region Nines reigning champions Lako thrashed Ponu Shadow Raiders 39-4 in round two at the National Football Stadium in Port Moresby yesterday.
This is the biggest win so far in this year’s tournament with a ruthless Lako outfit going all out throughout the 18 minutes of football.
The team from Gavuone village are defending their crown against 75 teams. They have scored two wins from two and are early favourites to retain the title. The youths are playing much smarter than last year.
Opposition will come from Siporo Magpies, Erima Laumas and SSG Roosters who need to win today to be in the Cup playoffs. Magpies and Laumas have scored two wins and needed to snatch a third.
This is going to be interesting as the unknowns are also making their presences felt in the tournament and are all in for upset wins against the favourites.
In another match, North Dingos Gold upset Spidertek 12-10 to hand the Pirates their second loss in a row.
Today will be the last pool matches and tomorrow the playoffs, according to Sportz Events executive director Ivan Ravu.
