Mumeng Landowners’ Association in Bulolo aims to work together with principal Wafi-Golpu landowners Yanta and Hengambu.
This is to ensure 25 ward areas receive maximum benefits from Wafi-Golpu mining spinoff activities.
Interim chairman Max Giamiti said the second forum at Kumalu Dust Market on Sept 15 called on the Government to ensure a clear land boundary of Wafi-Golpu mine – whether it is located in Mumeng, Bulolo or in Wampar, Huon Gulf.
Giamiti said that the forum was not for political purposes but provide avenues for all Mumeng landowners and impacted communities to speak their minds to ensure maximum benefits to locals.
“From previous experiences, our politicians were controlled by the Government and developers,” he said.
“Therefore, they are reluctant to speak for the people.
“We have no choice but to form an association and speak for people’s interest.”
Giamiti said although mining activity would occur in Wafi, surrounding impacted areas needed to be considered as well in terms of spinoff activities and benefits.
The forum was attended by Mumeng president Okam Paton who is also the provincial mining and environment minister, Bulolo administrator Tae Gwambelek and former Morobe governor Luther Wenge.
Giamiti said that after a final meeting which would be hosted by Bulolo MP Sam Basil, the association would be registered.
Wenge said he was willing to offer legal assistance to the association to accomplish its aims and objectives.
