Landownership claims ‘unscrupulous’

Lae News, Normal

THE Morobe Physical Planning Board has condemned actions of unscrupulous people who are claiming ownership of a portion of state land located along Cassowary Road in Lae.
The board chairman George Naemon said they had authorised for the clearance of the land known as portion 99, 100 and 101 last Wednesday.
He said the land had been covered by tall bushes for years and they had decided to have it cleared and develop it.
Those who were now claiming to be landowners should raise their claim with the lands division, he said.
“As far as we are concern, that portion of land belongs to the State,” he said.
After the land is cleared, a survey will be conducted and a town resubmission plan (TRP) number will be placed.
Under the TRP number, the legal description of the portion of land will be issued and sent to the National Lands and Physical Planning, who will devise an urban development lease.
