THE Lands Board will stop people from squatting or conducting business on State land without getting a title from the board, says chairman Sam Wange.

He told squatters living on a State land at Gerehu Stage 3B to move out because the land was to be used to provide affordable accommodation for public servants.

He said developers would start work soon.

“I ask the people living there to start moving out because this land is owned by the State’s  trustees.

They have been nominated so they own this land. I ask this people to start moving because development work will start soon,” Wange said.

Max Kep, the executive director of the Office of Urbanisation, said a lot depended on the project because many citizens had not been able to secure land for their homes.

“Out of their need for proper accommodation, they go out of their way to build houses wherever they find a piece of land available – and in the process slums are created,” he said.

“If this process works and the Government is able to secure land in this manner, it will in a big way help public servants.”

Kep said the project would work if fully developed to benefit everyone.
