Landslip buries pregnant mum

Main Stories

TWO children and a pregnant woman are among four villagers buried alive during a landslide due to continuous heavy rainfall in Kaintiba along the border of Gulf and Morobe, Kerema Police Station Commander Snr Insp Michael Pakyei says.
He said the victims were two children aged 12 and 15, a pregnant 30-year-old woman and a 50-year-old woman.
They were returning from their garden when a sudden landslide swept down the mountain and buried them alive last week at Wawo village in the Koditanga local level government.
The two children attended Kamina Community School.
Snr Insp Pakyei said yesterday that all four bodies had been recovered by the villagers and buried at Wawo village.
Meanwhile, Snr Insp Pakyei said the Gulf provincial disaster team had assisted the villagers by airlifting food supplies to the villagers involved in recovering the bodies burried by the landslip.
